31 Days of Halloween with Smeared and Smudged - Day Thirty-One

Happy Halloween! The Dream Team have been dipping their fingers into all things spooky, creepy, and scary, as we've played along with the Smeared and Smudged 31 Days of Halloween. The team has been taking turns to fill the quota of 31 days on the Dream It Up! blog, and posting on their own blogs as well. They've really appreciated all of your kind comments, as this has been truly a challenge for many of them! For our final day, here is the post from Lyn Bernatovich:

The Raven

Quoth the Raven Nevermore has the creepiest sound to it, so I Googled its meaning and here it is:

 

Quoth means said. So the line means, The raven said, "Nevermore." The meaning of nevermore - never again, never in the future, never ever - changes a little each time it is used.

My card today began with the Stampendous raven and developed from there.  It is stamped on acetate with Ranger Archival black ink.  I used alcohol inks on the reverse side of the acetate to create a frame of purple around the raven and then a mix of purples and silver mixative in the center.

The piece behind the diecut tree is vellum that was dry embossed with the Dreamweaver Damask stencil (LJ907).  On the reverse side of the vellum, I used the soot Mini Distress pad and applied color in big streaks.  After it was dry, I tore it in half and tore the edges to create unevenness.

The Dreamweaver diecut tree (a personal fav), was cut using Core'dinations sandables which is how the cool looking orange shows through.  The same sandables was used for the card base which is a purply color showing under the black.  The Dreamweaver Stencil bat trio stencil (LL525) was a leftover piece from a previous card.  Black jute (May Arts) was bunched up and stuck behind the bat for further strangeness.

Laura got back to metals with this one.  First, she dripped Color Solutions in Sugarplum, Blue Velvet and Thistle on yellow coated aluminum.  She blended them with a brush, while trying to avoid the moon area.  Then, she used Lemoncello Color Solutions on a QTip to enhance the circular moon shape.  When it dried, she ran it through her die cut machine with the LJ849 Bare Trees Stencil and the Rubber Embossing Mat.  She put the stencil face up and the metal face up on top of it to "deboss" the image.  She lightly sanded it and ran over it with a QTip saturated in Black Beauty Color Solutions.

She stamped the gravestone and raven on gray textured card stock and the ghost on vellum.  The LL525 Bats Stencil was embossed through the machine with shrink plastic.  She colored the bats with black paint pens, cut them out and shrunk them with her heat gun.

The products I used:-

Dark Blue card, White Core'dinations card, Dreamweaver Stencil LL3015, Black matte embossing paste, Stampendous stamps CRP166 and CRR131, Black Stazon ink pad.

Here is what I did:-

1  The outer frame was stamped using the Raven stamp and the aperture cut out.

2  The background behind the frame was stamped on to the co-ordinations white card using the Black Stazon.

3  The acetate window behind the frame was done with the stencil and then black matte paste applied over this and it was left to completely dry overnight.

4  The layers were distressed and the card put together.

I'm finishing up this month long Halloween celebration by going out in a box...a Cosmo Cricket Blackboard Photo Box, that is. No photos in this one, just some fun Halloween cards from this past month. Each have been designed to fit this box so that a spooky portion of the design shows through the window.

I paste-embossed in Matte Black the Dreamweaver Stone Wall over the box and lid, breaking it up a bit as I went, and smearing extra paste around the edges. When dry, I brushed on some Metallic F/X powders and white ink to highlight the stones. I also paste-embossed the Romantic Rose so that it trailed up the sides of the stone wall. When dry, I ink-stenciled color from the Tsukineko Splendor pad.

A stamped and cut out set of headstones from the Stampendous Tomb Elements was adhered with 3D foam tape.

1.  Sponge a white panel with blue and purple Brilliance.  Stencil LJ816 Spider web from Dreamweaver Stencils over this with black Brilliance. 

2.Cut an oval out of the center and layer onto a black panel that has a smaller over cut and tie with ribbon from May Arts.  Set aside.

3.  Stamp Tombstone Owl from Stampendous on a white panel with VersaMark ink and emboss with black embossing poweder.

4.  Watercolor image with Distress Inks in Stormy Sky, Tumbled Glass, Peeled Paint, Wild Honey and Walnut Stain.

5.  Layer pieces and mount to a purple card.

6.  Use Dual Alphabet Cutting Dies from Dreamweaver Stencils to spell BOO from glitter paper, layer onto purple paper and glue to card.

I started off with the Bats stencil and used the Double Glitter technique. I wrote about this on my personal blog a couple of days ago. This is a fun, beautiful technique that I love to do.

I also inked up the Damask stencil, as it works so well with creepy Halloween projects. On top of the Damask portion, I added an acetate frame. Look at all of that glitter!

I made this card in about 15 minutes, though it looks like it may have taken a lot longer. I hope you'll try the Double Glitter technique!

Today's card features the large Tapestry/Damask stencil machine-embossed on Core'dinations cardstock, and sanded to reveal the gray core as the base. The large focal panel is the Mirror Mirror image from Stampendous, stamped in black on white cardstock, and ink and edge distressed. The center of the mirror is the witch profile, but just to channel my inner Disney Haunted Mansion leanings, I embossed in white the Dreamweaver Cameo on Core'dinations vellum, framed in black, and popped up over the top. If you look carefully, you'll see the pretty cameo profile, with the witch silhouette underneath. Bwahahahahaha. To add to the ambiance, the Dreamweaver Bats and the Raven were cut from paper stamped in black using the Stampendous Ornate Border. More ink-distressing, and red rhinestones, a strip of May Arts Chevron ribbon, and the card had the eerie feel that I was aiming for.

Here's what I did to create this card:

Tape stencil onto white cardstock

Using sponge daubers, add ink randomly around stencil, as some colors will overlap, be mindful of how the colors will mix, you don't want them to be muddy

When complete, remove stencil and trim paper to desired size, set aside

Stamp image onto white cardstock and color

Stamp sentiment below image as shown

Trim stamped image close to edges and trim a mat for image from black cardstock, adhere together

Create card base from black cardstock

Adhere stenciled design to card base

Adhere stamped and matted image to card

Adhere flowers and pearls as shown

For this card, Laura was inspired by the Disney classic Snow White.  First, she masked out the inside of the LL3017 Cameo Stencil with removable tape and pasted the frame with Metallic Gold Embossing Paste.  While that dried, she used a drip stamp on some red card stock and embossed it with Stampendous Green Tinsel Embossing Powder.  Then, she positioned the LL562 Large Apple Stencil over the top, traced it, and cut it out.  She enhanced the apple shape with pigment ink.  She also used the stencil to trace and cut out the brown stem.  The background (reminiscent of Alice in Wonderland) was created by running the LJ 915 Opto Checkerboard Stencil through her die cut machine with the Rubber Embossing Mat.  She used the Core'dinations chalkboard effect card stock and sanded it.  The mirror was made by stamping with Stayzon on the back of scrap metal.  She used Black Glossy Embossing Paste with the Apple Stencil (the leaf masked out) on the background and put the apple pieces on it while it was still wet.  The sentiment is stamped.

Well its day 22 of the Smeared and Smudges Halloween event and I for this project used the Dreamweaver Stencil Tree Silhouette (LJ849), a haunted house design from Circuit, and the background is made using 2 different Stampendous stamp sets.

I started out by completing the Tree silhouette panel, I embossed some grey co-ordination card stock using my Big Shot machine, which I sanded back and then dragged a silver and then a gold ink pad over the top.

The background was created by simply repeating 2 stamped images covering the entire piece, the edges were distressed with a distress ink pad.

The final piece the haunted house was from Autumn Celebrations Cricut Cartridge and was cut at 5''.

The card was then put together, and I think it picks up the essence of Halloween.

Here is how my card was made;

1.  Stencil LL525 Bats on white paper with Glossy Black Dreamweaver Stencil Paste, set aside to dry.

2.  Lay LX7001 Damask on white paper, spray with Diet Cola Memory Mist, let dry.

3.  Die cut shape from the center and glue ontop of the bats after adding orange dots with a marker.

4.  Stamp Halloween Wish from Stampendous on white paper with VersaMark ink and emboss with black.

5.  Die cut sentiment cutting off the bottom.  Do this with orange and black papers and layer.

6.  Add green rhinestones to one of the bats eys and to the sentiment.

7.  Add ribbon from May Arts to the bottom and glue it on with 3 in 1 glue from Beacon Adhesives.

8.  Layer onto a black card and pop up the sentiment.

Laura gets pretty creeped out by spiders, so when she stamped "something wicked this way comes" with that $1 stamp and white chalk ink, she really meant it!  She also used that ink and a Stencil Brush with the LJ 816 Spider Web Stencil to created the pattern on gray mulberry.  She then stitched over most of the web (yes, by hand, but it was not difficult because the pattern was already there).  This also secured the mulberry paper to the distressed Core'dinations card stock.  The LS 28 Spider Stencil was embossed with Glossy Black Embossing Paste.  It looks a little "furry" on the edges because the stitching raised the stencil off of the background a little.  The gem was added while the paste was still wet.  Here is a closer look at that evil spider:

I kept things really simple for this card. I used one of my favorite backgrounds- the Damask stencil. I inked it up with Seedless Preserves Distress Ink and a stencil brush. Then I stamped, watercolored and cut out my pumpkin image. Did you notice that the pumpkin has a damask pattern on it? That is where I got the inspiration for this card!

I layered the image and stenciled cardstock on to a striped paper, and that was it. I didn't want to make it overly fussy, since the damask is so busy. A nice quick card that uses stencils in it's simplest form.
