Batty Batty AcroBat/A Mystical and Magical Month

This wonderful card using the LL525 bat stencil was sent to me from Georgia Sommers. Thanks! Georgia! I call Georgia's creations Georgious, because...well, they just are. She started with a white piece of cardstock and stenciled off the rounded edges of the Picasso stencil shield (LL332) using a large stencil brush with a medium toned purple ink. Then once the clouds were created she swished in just a bit of golden yellow, also with a large brush. Then she paste-embossed the bat stencil (LL525) with the Glossy Black Embossing Paste (DGKP), removed the stencil and while the bats were still wet sprinkled them with Goldfinch, Kiwi and Purple Velvet Metallic F/X powders....which can be purchased through www.stencilwithstyle.com

Click HERE to discover how to join our challenges and remember if you don't have a blog you are welcome to email me your creation at lynell@dreamweaverstencils.com and I will post it for you, much like I did for Georgia's card today. So when you email to me, please write a brief description of how the card was created.

Mystical and Magical....a New Challenge/Plus a winner from Awesome Autumn

Hop on board the Dream Team train as we journey through all things Mysterious and Magical through the month of October. Our guest "engineer" is Miss Eerie herself, Alison Heikkila. October promises to be a very bumpy ride...

Last month we had so much happening I had a time keeping up with it all. As we venture further into the holiday time zone I know you are all very busy, but we would love to have you join our challenge this month. Some of you have indicated you would like to play along but you are not quite sure how to link...so click HERE for more info on how to use the linky tool below.

We always list our last month's challenge winner on the first Thursday posting of the next month as we introduce the next month's challenge. Our random winner for our Awesome Autumn challenge is:

JILL

YAY!!!....and thank you for your participation and lovely comments too.

I know, it may be a bit odd, as the owner of this company that I post weekly...but it does force me to sit down to design and follow a challenge occasionally. I loved last month's blog hop with Quietfire Stamp Designs because I noticed that Suzanne, the owner, does the same thing. Her calligraphy rubber stamp sentiments really bring about a sense of peace to me. Thanks again to the Quietfire team for such a fun hop.

This week, I will be presenting the bat stencil (LM525), and I hope to show some creations of other people using this design over the next few days so be sure to check back to see different techniques that can be used with this amazing acrobat...hmmm acroBAT:

I have never really found bats spooky, but rather amazingly mysterious. The way they fly in the dark via sonar is truly magical to me. They really seem to defy reason, and in actuality as more and more is discovered about them science has described their antics and they are even more amazing to me.

The bats in the above creation were paste-embossed using the matte black embossing paste (DMBP). The background stencil which is called Pop-art (LJ915) was dry embossed through the embossing machine. Then a purple pigment ink was stroked across the embossing using a large stencil brush (we have an instruction flyer called Embossed StriƩ -TS15 that you can order at www.stencilwithstyle.com that describes this process in detail). Our new tree die (DX7020) was cut out of black cardstock and glued on top of an orange cardstock cut into a semi-circle.

Now please visit the rest of the team to see what magic they have to inspire you with....and don't forget to leave them some loving comments.

How To Link With Our Challenges

The Dream Team plays with challenges on a monthly basis, and we would love for you to play along. Confused as to how you would do this? Each Thursday post on the Dream It Up! blog provides a "linkytool" at the bottom of the post. Just click on the section that says, "Click here to enter". This will take you to a separate page provided by linkytools for you to add your info. It will ask for the URL of the project that you'd like to link for the challenge. On your own blog, click on the title of your posted creation. Then copy the URL in the browser bar at the top, and paste that info in the section of the online form asking for that info. The other sections will ask for a title (most just put their first name here), your email, and your name (optional). It will ask if you want to download the picture of your project from the web (i.e. where you posted it), or from your computer. Where you posted it is better, as others can click on it and see the entire picture and read your post. Once this process is finished, you have been entered for the challenge, and you can click on a box that will take you back to the Dream It Up! post, and you can continue viewing the blog. You do NOT have to have a blog to enter. You can provide a URL to an online gallery site with pictures of your creation (Split Coast Stampers, Paper Craft Planet, Photobucket, Flicker, etc.) If you are super tech-shy, you can email pics to lynell@dreamweaverstencils.com, and we'll post them on the blog for others to see. Winners are selected randomly each month, so never feel that your artwork will be judged.
If you have any other questions regarding the challenges, or techniques that you see on the blog, or techniques that you want to see on the blog...feel free to email Lynell at lynell@dreamweaverstencils.com and/or Pam at phornschu@yahoo.com. Thanks so much for sharing our love of stenciling, and following us on the Dream It Up! blog. Remember to also follow us on Facebook, Pinterest, and Paper Craft Planet for more prizes, challenges, and plenty of fun!

lynell@dreamweaverstencils.com

We are continuing our Autumn Awesomeness of working with the Art Glitter design team for one more week. Kristi Parker who is head of their team is our guest designer this month. Thanks to those who have been playing along with our monthly challenge...we will announce that random winner next Thursday, so you have one more week to post on our linky tool below. If you would like to know more about the Awesome Autumn challenge this month click HERE. Remember read carefully because if you order from either Stencil with Style or Art Glitter there is a discount in store for you.

Today I am sharing a new stencil design ....we are calling it Vintage Decor (LX7022). You won't be able to find it for another week or so, because our retailers are just now finding out about it too. I have to admit I really enjoyed doing this card in an Autumn colorway and with Art Institute glitter.

I started by paste-embossing the Vintage Stencil with Dreamweaver Glossy Green Embossing Paste (DGGP). After removing the stencil and while the image was still wet I sprinkled the leaves with Bavarian Forest, a microfine Art Glitter. Next I sprinkled the pod or flower portion with Bordello, another microfine Art Glitter. I set this aside and let it dry...then the real fun began.

I had some citron colored Swarovski crystals and glued them onto the dots...oooooo, so sparkly! Gem tack Glue from Beacon is my fave for attaching crystals.  But it also came in handy for the next part of this design. I squirted dollops of the Gem Tack glue onto the leaves and used a toothpick to move the glue to within a 1/16th of an inch of the design and then sprinkled on Art Glitter's Nutmeg colored glitter. Then repeated on the central leaves using Art Glitter Chartreuse colored glitter....and finally the flower or pod was done with Pumpkin colored glitter.  Adding this glue and glitter embellishing really added triple dimension to the piece. It did take awhile for the glue to dry...maybe two or three hours, but the results were so smashing that it was worth the wait. I tied up a scrumptious May Arts ribbon for a finishing accent and there it is a new design to share.

Don't hesitate to take the tour and see what the team has been up to lately...BTW, they love your comments even when we aren't having a hop:

Dreamweaver and Quietfire Design, Grand Finale!

Are you ready for the grand finale to our amazing week of Awesome in Autumn? This week we've been playing with the Quietfire Design team, and have been so excited to play with their amazing images and sentiments. In their beautiful calligraphic style, their quotes and thoughts are the perfect addition to our Dreamweaver designs. Follow along with us, and leave your comments for an opportunity to win one of two wonderful prize packages:

The cards designed for this week's blog hop with Quietfire have been so much fun. This particular card though, is one that  I can say would be quite easy to do multiples of for Christmas. Sometimes we create and the efforts become masterpieces, but if you have more than 20 cards to do the design needs to be streamlined. The angel stencil (LJ871)was simply dry embossed in the Big Shot machine. Tips to remember when doing this is to sandwich the stencil to protect it from the rollers at the top and bottom of the pass through rollers.

My layering through the machine from bottom to top is:
1. Thick white plate or platform without the tabs
2. Stencil face down
3. Cardstock ...spray the back of this with rubbing alcohol- it makes the design sharper without warping
4. Thick rubber mat by Stamping Details (sold at Stencil with Style)
5. Two acrylic plates (the Cuttlebug would be two acrylic "B" plates...be sure that if you do die cutting that you have a set of these for dies and a set for dry embossing your stencils. This cuts down on the stencils being warped by the overused die plates.

Once the embossing is done reposition the stencil onto the dry embossing and stencil with small brushes and either dyes or pigment inks. The embellishing touches were done with white glue and glitter from Art Institute Glitter. The lovely sentiment by Quietfire (stamp 5694)was stamped onto cardstock and the edging was rolled in white glue and sprinkled with Art Glitter.

Would like to thank Quietfire for this opportunity to use their beautiful rubber stamps this week. Don't forget to visit the team listed below and leave some love for an opportunity to win some beautiful materials from their company and ours. Hugs! Will be back on my Autumn track next Thursday.

Dreamweaver and Quietfire Design, Day Four

Get ready for an amazing week of Awesome in Autumn! This week we are playing with the Quietfire Design team, and are so excited to play with their amazing images and sentiments. In their beautiful calligraphic style, their quotes and thoughts are the perfect addition to our Dreamweaver designs. Follow along with us, and leave your comments for an opportunity to win one of two wonderful prize packages:

Nativity stencil (LL554) and Quietfire Blessed Season (5694)
The Quietfire calligraphy sentiment (5694) by Suzanne is so beautiful I couldn't resist stamping it in blue pigment ink on May Arts satin ribbon. Then I mounted it on layers of cardstock inside the card.

The nativity scene stencil (LL554) was used with the ink transfer technique. This involves spraying the actual stencil, and then setting it onto a clean paper towel face up. To do this I placed it onto a clean paper towel (this gives the excess spray somewhere to be absorbed.) Then I used Blue Lagoon colored Memories Mist (MM20) and sprayed two or three times onto the stencil and then used Stormy Water colored Memories Mist (MM13)...I used less of this darker color because it has a tendency to take over the coloring process because of the strength of the pigment color. Now pick up the sprayed stencil and lay it onto another clean paper towel with the sprayed side facing toward the ceiling. Now you will place glossy cardstock over the sprayed stencil, smoothing the back of the paper with your hand and pull it off of the stencil. The results are the smeared image you see behind the nativity that has an ethereal look. While this background area is drying I cleaned the stencil with a dry paper towel and repositioned it and aligned it onto the now dry background and paste-embossed it with Glossy White Embossing Paste (DGWP). Remove the stencil and sprinkle the wet paste with an ultrafine transparent glitter called Glacier (#211) from Art Glitter. Place it onto a warm place to dry...this will take at least 30 minutes.

Remember the month of September means 20% off at Stencil with Style...be sure to use code SWS20 when you check out.

Dreamweaver and Quietfire Design, Day Three

Get ready for an amazing week of Awesome in Autumn! This week we are playing with the Quietfire Design team, and are so excited to play with their amazing images and sentiments. In their beautiful calligraphic style, their quotes and thoughts are the perfect addition to our Dreamweaver designs. Follow along with us, and leave your comments for an opportunity to win one of two wonderful prize packages:

Flower Stencil (LX7021) and Faery Stamp (#6080)
I have had my Faery Stamp (#6080) for some time and when we designed the Flower Corner Stencil (LX70210) it seemed like an appropriate collaboration. Today is a continuation of our Quietfire Blog Hop and our Awesome Autumn cross promo with Art Glitter. This card was paste-embossed with Copper Metallic Embossing Paste (DCP) and then the following glitters were applied using a straw cut at an angle (this created a small scoop for very specific application):

One of the things that happens when you are putting the glitter onto embossing pastes in a deliberate way with the straw is that it may take five or ten minutes and the paste is drying the whole time, so this is why I used a base of the copper paste. That way if a small area does not attach to the dried paste the copper color shines through for the continued Autumn theme.

The Quietfire faerie sentiment was stamped with pigment ink and a gold embossing powder was sprinkled and then heated for more golden goodness. It is a striking contrast with the black.

If you are here to post your challenge card scroll down to the linky tool below.
