Owls to Die for.../ Continuing the Die Challenge

OWL BUDDY FROM THE NESTED OWLS (DG751)
Welcome to July...the month to DIE for! Yep. All of this month, the Dream Team are featuring our newest toys...our DIES! You'd be surprised at how many we have, and what fun things you can do with them...especially when used in conjunction with many of their stencil counterparts.

A couple of weeks ago I went crazy with the Tree line die and many of you stuck it out with me as I blogged every day of the week. This week I am going crazy with the owl die...but I have so many other things happening I don't know if I will get all of them posted...so I am starting out with the best of intentions and hope that I can blog every day. If you come by and leave a comment on the days I show owls...you could win this great nesting set of owl dies. Thanks for all your great support and you might also want to consider joining our monthly challenge as well. You could win any stencil of your choosing...I am noticing the odds are really great this time around, only two people other than the team have joined up for our die challenge AND ....remember you don't have to use a Dreamweaver Stencils die for this challenge (although we DO love to see what you create with our dies). Take the plunge and just link up below...

Here's my tutorial on the "owl buddy" die card I went crazy with this week:

First I found a set of notecards made out of glossy heavy duty cardstock. I purchased this paper some time ago at TJ Maxx (I think) in their stationery section and when it comes to a good deal on paper I am a dedicated shopper...love these cards.

I opened up the card and centered the owl "buddy" die (DG751) and sent him through my Big Shot machine. Remember that the stacking formula for that machine is: Thick white plate, a couple of chipboard shims (everyone has different needs for their shimming amount), first acrylic plate, the paper to be die cut (my notecard opened face-up), "buddy" with the blades against the front of the paper, then the second acrylic plate. Now crank this stack through your machine.

Measure a piece of double sticky paper (MPDS) the size slightly smaller than the front of your card and remove one side of the release paper.
Adhere the sticky paper (MPDS) to the inside of the card so that the sticky is now showing on the front and ready for the colored pieces of the die to be placed inside of buddy.

This sticky surface is ready for a variety of decorative papers this is known as paper piecing with dies.

I had cut out several pieces awhile back and I hadn't used them so I pulled them out and used different pieces for this project.  The owl buddy was sticky on the front of the card so this was a perfect opportunity to paper piece right onto the sticky paper.
Now's the time to lightly set the pieces in place to help you decide if you like the color combinations etc.

I then peeled off the release paper on the inside of the card and mounted a piece of red/orange patterned paper on top of this sticky adhesive to give it a nice finish. Seems like I took this picture upside down...wish I knew how to get blogger to flip it for me. Hmmm...blogger, huh?
I paste embossed three bird words (LG734) using Matte Black Embossing Paste (DMBP) on the inside and check marked "hoot" as the song the owl sings.

I used the "sing your song" from the bird word stencil (LG734) on the outside as well.

Now don't forget to visit the Dream Team to see what they have been creating and leave them some encouragement in the form of a comment or two....I love to get your comments and I know they do as well!

Since I just got my internet back and am catching up on your posts I think this may be my favorite card! I just love the papers, and how you framed him with the sing your song text. Wonderful idea! :) Great job. Thanks for sharing.
